He is however quite stubborn as when he asked Morty to offer an honest critique on his screenplay and Morty tries to do so, the lighthouse chief quickly loses his temper and tells Morty to get out all while calling him a "shitty person". Unlike other members of his species, he did not show any signs of violent tendencies and stated that he does not hold grudges towards anyone and is uninterested in taking part in the yearly purge festival.
Morty angrily shouts back, "You want me to cut back to three weeks earlier, when you were alive?"Īt first the Lighthouse Keeper appeared to be friendly man as he let Rick and Marty take shelter in his lighthouse so they could set up a beacon. The scuffle between them escalates, and Morty shoves the keeper down the lighthouse stairs, at which he tumbles all the way to the bottom and snaps his neck on impact. At this point, Morty lets out his anger properly, simply telling the keeper flat-out that the screenplay was terrible. Over the course of explaining himself to Rick, Morty claims to have "sat through" the reading, which enrages the keeper further. The keeper barged upstairs to try to take down the beacon, while Morty followed him to talk him out of it. In response, the keeper reacted poorly, declaring "you're a petty person and you're insecure, and you're taking it out on me," and that he was now kicking the two of them out. The keeper, pressing further, demanded constructive criticism, at which Morty suggested that a "three weeks earlier" framing device was unnecessary. Morty, attempting to be polite, merely told him that it was good. When the keeper finally finished telling his tale, he asked for Morty's opinion. He found himself eating Yummy' Yums candy bar to keep his patience. Morty found the screenplay difficult to sit through, due to the keeper's lack of writing skill the screenplay proved to be incoherent, boring, pretentious, and cliched. Rick set up the beacon while Morty sat through the Keeper's tale.Īs it turned out, the keeper's "tale" was actually a screenplay, centering on a woman named Jacey Lakums. He allowed them in, but told them that they could only do it if they listened to his tale. He told them that he did not have any need to be part of the purge because he had no anger directed towards anyone, but gladly offered Rick and Morty to kill him, only to find out that all they wanted was to use his lighthouse for their beacon. When they went to the lighthouse, the chief opened up the door. In order to leave, Rick had to set up a beacon on the lighthouse of the beach.
